About
Bio
I'm a urology registrar originally from Surrey, now based in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. I made the move across the world a few years ago and haven't quite stopped being captivated by the landscapes.
Outside of work, I play chess, shoot photography, and follow ice hockey with probably more commitment than is sensible for someone living in a country with very little ice.
Research Interests
In endourology, I've focused primarily on laser technology, particularly the thermal behaviour of Ho:YAG and Thulium Fiber lasers during upper tract procedures and what that means for tissue safety. From there, broader questions around optimising endoscopic stone surgery naturally followed.
In urological oncology, my interest has grown through clinical experience in New Zealand, looking at how well international guidelines translate to a regional setting. I've explored MRI-directed transperineal prostate biopsy practice in Hawke's Bay, and audited predictors of adverse pathological features and early biochemical recurrence after radical prostatectomy in a real-world regional cohort.
Systems design appeals to me because individual clinical decisions rarely happen in isolation. Work on pre-cystoscopy urine culture practice and antibiotic irrigation in endoscopic stone surgery both came from an interest in whether current protocols are truly evidence-based, and what a more consistent approach might look like.
Methodologically, I'm drawn to systematic review and meta-analysis as a way of making sense of fragmented evidence. Most of my published work uses this framework, and I've developed a particular interest in how review methodology shapes the conclusions we draw and the guidelines that follow.
